Master of Science in Education - School Counseling Grades PK-12

The School Counseling Program offers a Master of Science in Education. This degree program requires the successful completion of 39 credit hours of graduate education.  Students who wish to be fully endorsed for grades PK-12 must successfully complete 42 credit hours.

Mission Statement

We prepare ethical, culturally competent, and professionally skilled counselors to serve diverse and marginalized populations, with particular emphasis on the needs of rural, frontier, and High Plains communities, in collaboration with faculty, students, alumni, and community partners.

  1. Professional Identity, Ethics, & Cultural Competence: Students will demonstrate a professional counselor identity, apply ethical principles in accordance with the ACA and ASCA codes, and provide culturally responsive counseling.
  2. Human Development & Career Counseling: Students will apply developmental theory and career strategies to guide practice.
  3. Counseling Theory, Group Practice, & Assessment: Students will develop a theoretical orientation for individual and group counseling while identifying applicable assessments to guide practice.
  4. Specialization Competence: Students will demonstrate competency in their area of specialization, utilizing content-specific research to guide practice.
